Last night I don’t believe that I even slept at all. My mom, dad and brother arrived last night after a ten hour drive. We were all so happy to see each other! I’d be surprised if I have had four hours of sleep between the past two nights. I have been so excited!
Logan awoke this morning bright and early and right on time at 7:00 am. I heard him singing on the monitor and I smiled. I rolled drug myself out of bed and walked into your room and there he was, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as if it were any other Thursday morning.
No, Buddy. Today is probably one of the biggest days of your life and you don’t even know it. (Oh! To be little and not realize the stresses of the world just yet.)
We managed to get everyone ready and out of the door just in time. Having three extra people to get ready in the morning was a
little crazy insane but we managed. THANK GOODNESS the hearing time was changed because we would have seriously been late. We arrived to the court house at 10:30 on the dot.
The staff didn’t know where to send us, so off we went on a wild goose chase. Good times. However, they did say that the judge was busy this morning, so not to worry—he’d probably be late anyway. When we finally arrived to the correct place, there was the rest of the family—ready and waiting. (Someone must have given them better directions.) It felt so good to walk in to see everyone’s smiling faces on your big day!
We sat down and awaited the judge to enter the court room. I was nervous and excited all at once. Corey was as cool and collected as ever. (I don’t know how he does it.) Logan just kept looking around at everyone with the most confused look on his face. I think he was trying to figure out why everyone was there all at one time. It was for you, Lil Man! Just for you.
The judge entered the courtroom and called us to the front. Corey and I were sworn in by our attorney. She asked us several questions about Logan’s birth, his birth parents, the time since since birth and his care. Finally, we agreed to always love and care for him as if he was our natural-born child. (Our visitation was waived because we are still are active foster parents.)
We agreed, shed a few tears, and that was that.
Short and sweet.
Just like that baby’s mama. (Lord don’t let the lightning strike me down.)
Everyone applauded and we took pictures with the judge. He said that in his line of work he rarely gets the opportunity to share in just a joyous moment like this. He said that doing the adoptions are perhaps his greatest joy in regards to his job. He was very sweet. He asked to hold Logan and Logan obliged; however, he wasn’t so thrilled about it (he was exhausted).

We took several photos and (because other people were coming in for their court cases..haha!) we headed into the hallway where we mingled and waited. Everyone wanted to kiss and hug that baby. He’s been ours from the very beginning. Not one of us have ever felt any different. It just feels good to know that he is OFFICIAL and forever with us. I think we all breathed a big sigh of relief today…even still.

The attorney came back in with the final papers for verification of his birth certificate information / adoption certificate and we were done. We took photos and quickly headed to the restaurant for your party. We met several friends there and we celebrated you to the fullest. There were presents and cake and of course…lots and lots of love going all around.

After the lunch party, we went back to the house as a family—this time with Logan as our legal son. (And now with his legal name!) I don’t think I’ll ever forget walking through those doors as his legal mama. There was just a different sort of security for me and complete peace of mind. Coming home with you from the hospital brought me to about 50%. The revocation period ending, to about 80%. Bringing you home today with those papers in hand? 100% peace of mind. There is just something to be said about forever.
It wasn’t long before you were crashed out. You hadn’t had a nap since you awoke at 5:30 am. Daddy and I couldn’t believe that you even stayed awake as long as you did. You are unaware of today’s events, Lil Man. To you it was just a fun day with family and balloons. To us? To us it was perhaps the third greatest day of our lives. ❤
