Newsletter Month 1

Our Little Nugget–One Month.

Dear Logan,

You turn one month old tomorrow.  It seems like you were born just last week.  I’m not sure how time flew by so quickly.  It could be that your Daddy and I are so in love.  It could also be that we are in such a haze from lack of sleep that all of our days have started to run together.  Perhaps it’s both.

You still fit into your newborn clothes so for today, I’m happy.  When you move into your “0-3 month” wardrobe, I may shed a tear or two.  It’s sappy and pathetic, I know.  But I just can’t help it.  You’ve turned me into a blubbering mess, Nugget.  I know, you have my number.  You know that I love it.

You love to play little games with Mama and Daddy’s sleeping patterns.  At one month of age, you are already trying to run the show.  You sleep really well for a couple of nights (awaking only for feedings) and then decide that you’re not sleeping for the next four or five nights AT ALL.  This has made things very interesting around our household, it goes without saying.

However, it’s amazing how well we are functioning in our dazed-out stupor.  I must say, I’m proud of us.  Okay, so there was the incident where we tried to go to the doctor’s office and ended up in the parking garage (walking right by the doctor’s office, mind you).   The dog’s food also may or may not have ended up in the water bowl a couple of times as well.

But who’s counting.

All-in-all, we are managing quite nicely for a middle-aged couple experiencing a newborn for the first time.  It’s definitely an experience.  Yes, we do complain about how tired we are.  We moan and groan when you decide that 2:34 AM is a GREAT time to stare into our eyes.  But the truth is, we wouldn’t change it for the world.

(And don’t tell anyone, but those 2:34 stares and baby sounds are what keep me going every day.)

To be such a tiny little thing, you are as strong as an ox.  You started holding your head up on your own at just three days old. You now can hold up the top half of your body on your own.  Last week, you actually flipped yourself over to your back with your legs.  At this rate, you may be crawling at four months.

*insert scream of panic*

Your little personality traits are starting to show.  Yes, you can be stubborn and temperamental–for sure.  Most of the time; however, you are nothing but sweet and such a Snuggle Bunny.  I must say, you’re also quite the comedian. No one can tell me that that you don’t know you are entertaining us with those faces and responses.  All of the parenting books say this doesn’t happen until four weeks, but I’m convinced that what you are doing is intentional.  YOU know exactly what you are doing.

You made your first intentional sound a few days ago.  You scared yourself and looked around to see where it came from.  Once you realized that it was you, you kept coughing to try to do it again and got mad when it didn’t work.  It was the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard.

Motherhood?  It’s turning out to be everything that I always thought it would be and much, much more.  I love you, kiddo…more than I’ve ever loved anything.  I really do love my sleep and I’m giving that up for this you.  For anyone that knows me, that’s proof enough. 🙂

I don’t want you to grow up, but I’m anxious to see it happen.  I’m anxious to see who you will become.  So don’t get mad at me when I take so many pictures.  It’s annoying, I know…I know. Forgive me, Buddy.  I don’t wanna miss a thing.

Love,
Mama
